About once every twenty five years I get the urge for some Rundgren.

Never thought it.
Was pretty obvious to me that the title connects to the first line of the post. So I read it like this:
"Don't ask me why... (but) about once every twenty five years I get the urge for some Rundgren."
In fact, if you are still worried about it, just add the elipses and the but. ;)
Now back to the post, I won't ask why, but I will ask "What?" What in the world is this? Who are these people? What is that song?
Funny - I think I saw this video once back in the day (way back in the day). For some weird reason it's come back to me from time to time.
I thought of this song the day before yesterday. Wonders of technology, YouTube had it . . .
Still don't know why I posted it though :-)
Oh, and the song is "Feet don't fail me now" by Todd Rundgren and Utopia.
He's had a long career as both a musician and a producer, and he was computer-savvy early on. The one song he did that you probably have heard is "I don't want to work, I want to bang on de drum all day".
The one song he did that you probably have heard is "I don't want to work, I want to bang on de drum all day".
And for that, he'll have my respect til the end of my days. One of the greatest songs ever.
it's so funny that that's the song todd will be remembered by. i've been a loyal fan of his since the 70s and i can tell you that song is probably something he came up with while he was mowing the lawn. since he moved to hawaii he felt compelled to render "bang on the drum" with a ukelele. check it out on youtube here.
but i think many are also familiar with hello it's me. and a couple of his songs are used in "dumb and dumber." he has a huge catalog of songs with quite a few gems contained therein.
it's really a treat to see him mentioned on this blog. tastes range deep and wide around here.
bill,
you have no idea how thrilled and honored i am to discover that you have put a fingerpost link on thinklings. what an encouragement. thank you and many happy returns of the day.
My kids want a WHY?
And once again I want to say "DON'T EAT THE FUNNY PILLS YOU FIND ON THE FLOOR AND MAKE VIDEOS."

I just realized that the title of this throw-away post could appear to be a rebuttle or snarky comeback to Shrode's excellent post. Not my intention at all!!!
