My timing on this post was impeccable . . .

As I expect many Thinkling readers did, I thought of your post when I heard about the rig fire. Despite the timing, I appreciated the perspective the data you provided gave me.
Even the 'impeccability destroying' article you linked today acknowledges the inherent difficulties (read dangers) of oil rigs. (After all, they're nearly as dangerous as commercial fishing and coal mining. And possibly, I don't know the specifics, not far from that of farming.)
Risk we will avoid only in eternity. The question is not whether risk, but weighing the risk. The 6th Commandment tells us we must ask the question. But we make gods of ourselves in violation of the 1st C if we think we can live without any risks at all.

Whoops. ;-)
Seriously though, I just prayed for those folks and their families.
I don't think this nullifies your post though.
I still think we should appreciate our drillers. Perhaps all the more so in the wake of something like this.
