"As they passed the rows of houses they saw through the open doors that men were sweeping and dusting and washing dishes, while the women sat around in groups, gossiping and laughing. "What has happened?" the Scarecrow asked a sad-looking man with a bushy beard, who wore an apron and was wheeling a baby-carriage along the sidewalk. "Why, we've had a revolution, your Majesty -- as you ought to know very well," replied the man; "and since you went away the women have been running things to suit themselves. I'm glad you have decided to come back and restore order, for doing housework and minding the children is wearing out the strength of every man in the Emerald City." "Hm!" said the Scarecrow, thoughtfully. "If it is such hard work as you say, how did the women manage it so easily?" "I really do not know," replied the man, with a deep sigh. "Perhaps the women are made of cast-iron.""

I Need An Address Book And Calendar

Calling all geeks!

Previously I had been using an old version of Palm Desktop to serve as my calendar and address book. I've actually used that program for more than 10 years, and it's time for me to move on.

Do any of you guys or gals out there have any recommendations? I'm thinking about Google Calendar (which I already use on a limited basis), but it would be nice to have an address book and calendar that sort of talk to each other, if you know what I mean. Unless I'm missing it somewhere, Google Calendar doesn't seem to offer an address feature.

I need some suggestions -- preferably with links!

I believe Google Calendar will interface with your Gmail contact list, which you could use as your address book.

Bird - you get to use the same contact list for all the Google products: http://www.google.com/contacts

I dunno, I can't get used to the idea that my data lives on someone else's server, so I can't do the Google apps. I still use MS Outlook 2003, but it's pricey and a bit clunky.

I've also still got a Palm based smart phone (Cetnro) and really, really, really like that it syncs with Outlook. I don't think it'll sync with anything but Outlook, Palm Desktop or maybe Lotus Notes (Does anyone use that anymore?)

If there's something else I can get besides Outlook, I'd love to know.

@salguod I think you can use Thunderbird(email) in combination with Sunbird(calendar) (Open source clone of Outlook) and hook them both up to your Gmail calendar and contacts list.
Then all your stuff is both "in the cloud" and local on your machine.
