"If you think Scripture is telling you what you want to hear, take a long, hard second look."

Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Pastors

Sometimes the truth is funny.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Sometimes it does both.

This video is all true. Trust me.

You all are welcome to try to solve this problem under comments, but I don't think it's solveable.

So we can at least laugh at ourselves right?

H/T Darrell

There are a number of pastors out there speaking out against this type of thing. Mark Driscoll has addressed this in his usual style. John Piper's church has regular (I think weekly) Q&A sessions with their leaders/pastors and quality of family life and quantity of family time is one of their accountability points. Part of the problem is that pastors need to educate their flock on the proper role and limitations of the office of pastor. Numerous times, worked into sermons, Driscoll reminds his people that, "I'm a Christian first, a husband second, a father third and a pastor fourth." Most pastors don't delegate and so they have no one else to take the late night calls, respond to requests, etc. Selfish congregants must be taught that while the pastor serves God, he isn't God, and so they can't get whiny and start murmuring against the leadership when "the pastor" isn't personally available at their beck 'n call. I highly respect that my pastor didn't offer me his cell number.

I never knew Ann Coulter sang country...

I think you are right about selfishness.

I think selfishness is the biggest reason for the problem, on both sides.

Too many pastors get their fulfillment from their jobs... in the sense that's how they feel good about themselves. Or they just can't let go of certain things.

My cell phone has actually helped my family life. They don't call my home number, so my wife and kids don't have to answer the home phone. And if I'm not available, I don't have to answer my cell phone. It's great.

But for the most part, most of my folks are pretty respectful of my family time. But it only takes a few...

Lars,
I didn't get your joke. Sorry, man. Help me out!

I think he meant that the woman singing looks a lot like Ann Coulter in that she's skinny with long, straight, blond hair.

Well, that, and her facial structure bears some similarity as well.
I thought the same thing, honestly.

In a Bible study book I'm doing she says this. . .

"Though we may be eager to do things for God, it's important to realize that ministry, like any other kind of power or position, can be fancy food for the flesh.

What's the deal with Rook? Isn't that a game of some sort?

Yes, A.M. That's all I know though. I sorta figured it was an old persons game, like domino, or cribbage or something. So the idea is that the dude is staying out late hanging with the little old ladies playing cards rather than coming home to his wife.

Some person will check wikipedia for us, I'm sure... :)
