"As they passed the rows of houses they saw through the open doors that men were sweeping and dusting and washing dishes, while the women sat around in groups, gossiping and laughing.
"What has happened?" the Scarecrow asked a sad-looking man with a bushy beard, who wore an apron and was wheeling a baby-carriage along the sidewalk.
"Why, we've had a revolution, your Majesty -- as you ought to know very well," replied the man; "and since you went away the women have been running things to suit themselves. I'm glad you have decided to come back and restore order, for doing housework and minding the children is wearing out the strength of every man in the Emerald City."
"Hm!" said the Scarecrow, thoughtfully. "If it is such hard work as you say, how did the women manage it so easily?"
"I really do not know," replied the man, with a deep sigh. "Perhaps the women are made of cast-iron.""

We have a friend that lost her mother in the earthquake. When we first heard about it we didn't believe it because our friend's mom had been here since the summer. She had visited our Sunday School class several times and we didn't realize that she went back to Haiti on January 6th. Please pray for Sidney and Michele during this terrible time. Our hearts are broken for them. Houston's First Baptist website has more information and some links to local (Houston) relief efforts.

We have some good friends from our church who moved to Port-au-prince just two weeks ago to teach school/begin ministering there in a long-term capacity.
It seems that they are ok, but, needless to say, their ministry has already come into quite the challenge.
Their names are Ben and Katie. As you pray for the country (who, from what I can tell, is devastated), please remember them and their families. Pray that God might use them to touch a nation who is, for the most part, lost and mired in a strange mixture of Catholocism and witchcraft - obviously not a scenario that offers hope. Pray that God would keep them safe and protect them as they continue to suffer aftershocks in the next days.
This country was nearly in disrepair before the earthquake, but I can't imagine what things are like there now.
