Use Your Gift

A fantastic quote, from Piper:

The first great incentive to use your gift is that thereby you are caught up into the great redemptive work of the Spirit in this age. You have your gift from the Spirit; you use it in the power of the Spirit; and therefore, the fruit you produce is the life of the Spirit. You are not left to yourself and your own sufficiency. The first thrilling incentive to find your gift and use it is that in using it you find yourself borne along by the Spirit. You feel great that you are at the center of God's will; you know his wind is at your back; you know his angel is running before you; you finally know what you are made for, and you exult in the grace of God to include you as a minister of the new covenant.
I love that - "caught up into the great redemptive work of the Spirit in this age."

It's been asked in this space before: do you know what your spiritual gifts are? Are you currently using them?

I'd love to know - answer in the comments.

Great post. Good quote. My favorite part was this one:
you exult in the grace of God to include you as a minister of the new covenant

That's exactly how I feel when using my gift. God could have done it without me, but it is grace that he includes me as a means to his end. Wow.

Anyway, I'm reluctant to be the first one to say "this is MY gift". Feels kind-of unhumble. But Bill, I'm doing it for you man. It's not right that your post should just sit here comment-less.

So I hope my comment primes the pump and gets people going.

My gift: teaching. No question. When I teach people are edified. I know because they tell me.

My suggestion to others wondering what their gift is to ask these questions of themselves:
What do I do that edifies others and builds Christ's church?
What do people thank me for doing because it helped them?
When I have been an answer to someone else's prayer, what was I doing?
What have people told me?
What do I really LOVE doing?
What seems to come really easily to me, that doesn't necessarily to all Christians?

I thought my gift was administration but I've been told that I'm just plain bossy. Some people say that experiences are more fun with me along. I've been told that people remember a lot of laughs when I'm there. Although I've been told that my laugh sounds like a cackle. My family has called me "Billy Bob" because I preach so much. I enjoy teaching 4th grade Sunday School but have never had any compliments on it. I am in 2 prayer groups one of which I started. I enjoy singing in the choir although I'm not a soloist. Some say that is evangelism.
